5 Job Decisions You Should Have Made by Bernie Reifkind

As you reflect over the past year and you digest some of the decisions that you made about your career, I can virtually guarantee that there are some major job decisions that you should have made.

You know you are on the road to success if you would do your job, and not be paid for it.

Of course you tell yourself, well it was a lousy economy and your company didn’t downsize and at least you can pay the mortgage and many countless exercises in delusional gymnastics. 

Don’t worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you’ll have to ram them down people’s throats.

So here comes a new year with all the hopes and aspirations that a new year brings.  What are you going to do this year to further your career?  Why didn’t you do it this year?  You procrastinated.

Procrastination refers to the deferment of actions or tasks to a later time. Psychologists often cite such behavior as a mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting and/or completing any task or decision. There are three criteria: for a behavior to be classified as procrastination, it must be counterproductive, needless, and delaying.-Wikipedia.org

So what are the 5  job decisions that you should have made this year?

1.   You should have made a rational assessment of where you are in your career and where you want to be and taken the firts step.

2.  Even in the worst economy of your generation, you should have asked for either a promotion or more responsibility, that usually leads to a promotion.

3.  You should have interviewed more. 

4.  If you are unhappy at work, then you should have fixed the problem or found another job.  See #3.

5.  You spent too much time multi-slacking, surfing the internet, texting, listening to bad news.  It’s your decision in every move that you make. 

Work harder on yourself than you do on your job.

So what are you going to do for yourself this coming year?  How are you going to further your career?  How are you going to do more business?  What are you willing to risk to achieve excellence?
