Demanding The Moon

Did you ever enter into negotiations with someone who is “demanding the moon?”  Or do you have a boss who is demanding an outcome that is virtually impossible?

Demanding the moon, is a power play on steroids.  In reality it is requesting for far more than rational expectations or than what was previously agreed upon.

Do we give in?

Well that depends.  In any negotiation, the wise professional has a bottom line so he/she enters asking for much more but will settle for less.  That is completely rational and that is how the game is played.

Do we give in to our boss or clients when there demands are simply untenable?  This is the tricky area of our working world.  There is no right or wrong answer.

It probably boils down to the person in the power seat.  But how do you know who has the power seat?

It’s the one with less to lose.
