Jobs in Healthcare

Posted by Bernie Reifkind on February 3, 2010

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, total employment in the U.S. is expected to increase from 145.6 million in 2004 to 164.5 million in 2014, or 13 percent. The 18.9 million jobs that will be added by 2014 will not be evenly distributed across major industrial and occupational groups.

The largest growth over this period of time is expected to come from the service industry, specifically health care. Growth in employment in health care will be driven by the increase in demand for services due to our aging population. Health care and social assistance, including private hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities along with individual and familyservices are expected to grow by over 30% and add over4 million new jobs.
